Dear Friend,

We hope you had a restful weekend. As you prepare for a new week, consider making a simple dessert to brighten up your days. Need an idea? How about the recipe below?

 

 

OSEM TEA BISCUIT DATE SQUARES

 

Ingredients:

5 and quarter oz pareve margarine
8 oz dates (chopped and stoned) 
6 oz  Osem biscuits (made in Israel; can be purchased at Stop and Shop)
I egg (if not comfortable with using a raw egg, use pasteurized egg white instead)
Coconut flakes

Method:

Melt the sugar and margarine in a pan. Add the dates which have been chopped into the pan and cook on a gentle heat until the dates soften. Mix with a  wooden spoon. Remove the date mixture. Beat an egg and mix it into the mixture very quickly. Break up the tea biscuits and add them to the date mixture. Turn it all  into a greased tray and leave for few hours to set. Cut into squares and roll in coconut flakes.

Below are the ingredients for the Israeli Pasta Salad

(shown in the picture above):

 

1 package of Feta sheep's milk cheese made by Tnuva (crumbled)

1 package of tri-color spiral pasta (cooked, rinsed in cold water and drained )

1 sweet pepper (red, orange or yellow; diced)

1 package of fresh cherry tomatoes (washed)

I cup of pitted black olives

1/4 cup of chopped fresh parsley

1/4 cup of chopped fresh basil

1 spoon of balsamic vinegar

1 spoon of lemon/lime juice

3 spoons of olive oil

 

Combine all of the ingredients in a mixing bowl and enjoy this  tasty, easy-to-make and healthy treat!

 

 

 

Have you always wanted to make your own hummus at home? Wait no more! Here is what you need to do:

Step 1: Purchase LIOR Tahini and Chickpeas (these products are made/packaged in Israel and are sold at Fairway)

Step 2: Soak the chickpeas beans in cold water overnight (use the entire package)

Step 3: Cook the chickpeas beans in a large pot on a small flame for 5 hours or until completely soft

Step 4: Combine the cooked chickpeas, the remaining water (approximately 1-1.5 cups), the entire content of the tahini container, 3 spoons of olive oil, 2-3 heads of garlic and 1/4 cup of  fresh parsley in a food processor, and blend the ingredients until a smooth, thick texture is obtained

Step 5: Add salt, pepper, paprika, lemon/lime juice according to your taste

Step 6: When serving the hummus, decorate with sesame/black sesame seeds and paprika

Step 7: Enjoy!
